Indian Treasure Trove - Glastonbury

It's already Monday again!

What did you do at the weekend rest, work or go out?
The weather was a bit hit and miss at the weekend, sunny one minute then sudden heavy rain the next. That didn't stop us from going to Glastonbury on Saturday to stock up on supplies from the health food store.

I went in to Dilliway and Dilliway with Miss P whilst Alan waited outside. THE shop for all things Indian for the home. Although most of my house is decorated in a vintage French/English/Belgian decor, there are other styles of decor which I absolutely love. My three other favourites are Indian, Moroccan and Gypsy/bazaar style.

This beautiful open tent setting was a real inspiration. Miss P loved it!

I love that cranberry coloured lantern

What I like about the Indian decor are the colours and designs, so vibrant and pretty. Not at all garish, just beautiful. They are happy colours. I went in search of some Kashmiri things but they had sold out of most of them, more on the way though...

One the other shops to be found in Glastonbury

All this shopping brought on an appetite, we had lunch at La Terre on the High Street. I had a beetroot soup, Miss P a tomato and basil soup and Alan had a beetroot risotto. He was relieved to find something that didn't have any of the ingredients he can no longer have.

The risotto tasted a lot nicer than it looked :-)

Alan captured a hint of a rainbow for me whilst I was driving

We got back home just before another downpour...no wonder Somerset is such a green county!

I came back feeling very inspired by the colours and beautiful Indian decor I saw in Dillaway and Dilliway. I have three more rooms to decorate in the house, our bedroom and our walk in wardrobe/office are two of them. Dare I decorate one of them in bright colours using a mix or Indian and Gypsy style? I am very tempted....What would Alan think? I know that Miss P would approve, she would say: Hurray, at last you have seen sense, a vintage free room!
Perhaps it could be the walk in wardrobe/office as the bedroom should ideally have calmer more peaceful colours...I'll let you know when I have made a decision. I want to make sure that I still feel the same way about it next week, next month.

bientôt!

Isabelle X

We went to Dilliway & Dilliway a couple of weeks ago. Its one of my favourite shops and I love the way they've set out that attic room. I brought one of those pink printed velvet cushions and Monkeychild was treated to one of the woven stools, which she fell in love with. Did you notice those lovely turquoise and lilac floor cushions? They're gorgeous as are those glass ceiling lamps.

Once upon a time I would most certainly have gone for those beautiful colours, though I am now drawn to the off white, shabby french style. Having said that my new sewing room will be a true mix of vintage, kitsch and the odd splash of bright colour to inspire me. Will be interested to see your final decision.
PS beautiful photos!

I do love the colours on some of the Indian and ethnic pieces, and I especially love the colour of the staircase in the shop photo!

Our bedroom started out as a Vintage Free room with more of a clean-line and unluttered 60s feel, although over the years a few small touches have crept back in ;0)

I found it quite refreshing to have a completely different feel in one room and I always think if you don't like something once you've lived with it for a bit, you can always change it- luckily with our enjoyment of the journey towards finishing a room being as great as the finished article, tinkering with decor is DEFINITELY no great hardship!

From your home photos, and meeting you at fairs it's obvious that your design skills are so fabulous whatever theme you chose would look delightful!

Have a good week xx
ps I bet Tracey over at The Vintage Bothy would love the Glastonbury shop

How very bizarre that you posted this shop. in recent years I have decorated in a place, shabby chic style, but recently I have been drawn once again to this kind of style. I am thinking of folk art, gypsy caravans and embellished cushions. So I am loving this post. This post is perfect for me and a feast for the eyes.It is good to know there others out there who love a mixture of styles. xxx

What a great looking shop - we'll be visiting Ben's parents in Somerset just before Christmas and I already have a (far too long) list of everywere I want to visit. Ben loves Glastonbury too, so perhaps I'll make an effort to get to this one!

I'm similarly drawn to Indian/bazzar style. My university room always had Indian, Egyptian and Hungarian textiles in it, along with more classic Laura Ashley-type things. They can sit together quite well - could you go for a room that's a bit of a 'mix'?

Those colours are so enticing -& yes very happy!
Look forward to reading about your final thoughts...
Hope you enjoyed Downton Abbey last night.

I also think the cushions on the chest and the purplish ones on the flowered quilt could be mixed into a vintagey shabby look. Lovely! x

What a beautifully inspiring post! The photographs are gorgeous. Look at that explosion of colour and array of decorative potential. Wonderful. And that book? It looks most interesting.

I love beetroot in anything and am a great fan of beetroot soup with a glug of cider vinager, nutmeg, and cream (of course!)

Bonne journée Isabelle.

Hi, thank you so much for following my blog!

I agree - I think the exotic, bright colours and delicious textiles are more suited to the bedroom, while the study should be a bit more calm!

Beautiful photos. I like that look too, though I just mix up all the things I like and don't go for themed rooms as such.
I meant to say, I loved the sunbeams in the woodland photos you posted a couple of weeks ago - very dramatic and well captured.

Dear Isabelle, just the other day I was thinking how much I love the vibrancy of India. Daisy was going through my old travel photos and I love the way they put colours together. I think you should go for it! I love to mix things up and if you don't like it - you can change it back! Do it!!!!! Loved this post for all its joyous inspiration. I do love a snappy, bohemian look. Good to see Alan isn't suffering too badly on this diet.xx
