RECIPE: Hawthorn and Artichoke Fruit Leather

In one of my recent posts, I mentioned that I had been berry picking. This is what I made with the hawthorns: HAWTHORN & ARTICHOKE FRUIT LEATHER

Fruit leather is fruit that has been dried using an oven or a dehydrator

The recipe is taken from the Grow your own drugs book
Click on the picture below to see the ingredients required and the recipe.

Fresh hand picked hawthorns

Artichokes

This is what it looks like when it comes out of the oven. It has a leathery appearance and I admit does not look that appealing at first glance BUT it does taste good! When cooled down it is cut in to strips.

A healthy tasty dried fruit snack, ideal in between meals!

I bought a couple of things online recently....from bloggers.

A pretty pink bird from Devina at The Granny Fairyglade

Two lovely lavender scented sacks from Hen at HenHouse Emporium

By the way, I went back for the jug that matches the glasses. Thank you for all your lovely comments about them!

A bientôt!

Super - I have been getting ready to make a batch of hawthorn syrup because of it's fab results with blood pressure, but I think my better half might just prefer some fruit leather, less medicinal - it's always a game around here!!!! hugs Debs xx
P.S. I made a elderberry syrup for sore throats, coughs and colds I will post the recipe later, you might enjoy it! xx

So now I know what to do with hawthorns! Is the final taste sweet, or savoury? I guess the latter, but I can't quite visualise it. Thanks for sharing it, because I was most intrigued!

Hello Isabelle,
Thank you for your lovely comment about the dust storms on my Blog. Your Blog has become my new 'Blog crush' I really appreciate the fact you take the time to even visit me and leave such thoughtful comments as your Blog is very busy. I love the entries when you show what you have bought and I have been through some of your archives and badly want some bunnies from The Vintage Magpie and a pixie book box as well! Your new purchases are so lovely and the pink bird lovely from The Granny Fairyglade. I also love the lavender scented sacks as lavender is one of my favourite fragrances. There are so many talented people in Blogworld. I am really in awe that you made the Hawthorn fruit leather. Phoebe is lucky to have such a Mummy who whips up such tasty and nutritious treats! Enjoy the reminder of your week. xx
