Favourite shops in Bath - Susannah Decorative Antiques and Textiles

Let me take you on a tour of one of my absolute favourite shops in Bath which I visited again today. Yes, a day off from decorating at last!

I first discovered Susannah Decorative Antiques and Textiles shop several years ago (15 years ago approx) whilst living in Kent at the time. I frequently went on holiday to the West Country, I would usually break up the journey in Bath as I loved shopping there.
Apart from the fact that I absolutely love the beautiful antique textiles, quilts and handmade items etc., the interior reminds me of my Aunt Suzy's house in Belgium! The staircase in particular and stained glass here and there, as well as the general feel of the place.

The window is always so beautifully arranged. I love lace & crochet edging on a window or piece of furniture. A finishing touch that I have really liked and used throughout the house ever since first seeing it in Belgium many moons ago. That's why I was so taken by this shop when I first came across it, somehow it felt very familiar to me and yet very individual and unique.

Broad Street, Bath

Susannah's shop front

I was drooling over that window display

As you enter, you are greeted with a the lovely scent of lavender

Just look at that mannequin's waist line!

Such a pretty little face

I love this piece of furniture!!!

Moving towards the back of the shop now..

Yes, there is more to look at..

It reminds me of the staircase leading to my Aunt's attic, same layout same feel! I always pause there for a bit as it is the closest I'll ever get now to experiencing the feel of my Aunts house.
The shop feels more like a beautiful unique home than a shop. It feels intimate and inviting.

More antique treasures to be found at the back of the shop

Walking back towards the front of the shop
This part also reminds me of My Aunt's & Grandmother's house

So beautiful isn't it!

Susannah Decorative Antiques and Textiles features in Bath's Best Shopping & Dining guide

Last year I took my sister there, I wanted to know if it reminded her of our my Aunt & Grandmother's house in Belgium. After looking around and reaching that staircase, she agreed that it did.

I hope that you have enjoyed the little tour.

Hawthorn & artichoke recipe to follow soon, just had to get this post in today.

I hope that you are all having a great weekend!

A bientôt!

Isabelle,

This was a fabulous post!! Do you realize how awesome it is to be sitting in Chicgo looking at pictures of Bath! And not in a magazine. Your sweet commentary really made me feel like I was there. The street view was wonderful. Are these type of narrow brick streets throughout Bath? England?? lol!! And the shop is the best. If your Aunt's house was like this, I can understand your great memories of it!

By the way...did you happen to buy anything??!!

xoxo

Hello Isabelle,
Your Aunt Suzy must have been a very special person. What lovely memories she has given you to treasure. I could happily die in that shop! The lace edging is wonderful. I also love the idea of arranging it on the fireplaces. I might adopt that in our cottage. Sigh. I would love my cottage to look like that shop! Bath is also beautiful. I have visited it once but only for a day. Next time I go I must look out for this lovely shop. Enjoy your weekend. xx

I love to tour around in these kind of shops. I think you are right, the crochet work, the narrow stairs, the cast iron well what do you call those sticks at the stairs? I am too tired to use my dictionary! I even reckognize parts of my own house. Great that such a wonderful shop evokes so many beautiful memories too, thanks for sharing! Have a lovely Sunday!

Hello Isabelle,
My gosh, what a beautiful shop. Her store front is amazing and the window is dressed so beautifully. One trip to this shop is not enough. I will have to come back to this post again and again.
Hugs,
June

I can see why this is your favorite shop...it is now mine....too bad it's so far away. This the kind of stop I could spend hours in. The window display is magical and in the evening must just glow with all the crystal. The views of the street are gorgeous and I know it sounds strange but I never see powerlines there like we have here. I find it hard to show pics of the streets here because all I notice is powerlines in the way. I know I'm weird!!!

Thanks for the lovely tour!

What a find - must look out for that shop when in Bath. I loved the dresser with the shelves edged in lace and all those little fabric hearts too. It must take ages to check it all out.

What a fabulous shop. Lucky you being close enough to visit. I clicked onto her website but couldn't get any of the stock to come up. What a lot of beautiful stock she has. Did you buy anything?

Isabelle, this shop looks absolutely wonderful! I will remember it if I get to Bath when visiting my parents in law - unfortunately, our holidays there are normally family ones, and I can't see the rest of the family coming into this shop with me, but you never know my luck...

I particularly like the lace edgings with chandelier drops - you may have noticed that I am collecting these 'pampilles' and now I have another idea of what I could do with them! Thanks so much for the tour.
