DEVON BLISS Part 2

The day before we were due to travel back home, we went to visit Agatha Christie's holiday house, Greenway. It is now in the care of the National Trust. We took the ferry from Dartmouth to Greenway. I enjoyed the scenery on the way.

We went past a Picnic Boat

Agatha Christie's Boat House

The floor of the boat, I love the colour

Arriving at Greenway

Past a pretty cottage and up the hill to Greenway House

Here is the side of it

Area where you can have snacks & lunch and do a spot of shopping in the national trust shop

Ice-cream break and writing a few postcards

Plants for sale

Entrance to the shop

For Agatha Christie fans

I like the bags and deck chairs

Display inside the shop

Greenway House

No photos allowed inside! I will leave you to discover it for yourself if you visit the house some day..It is well worth a visit. The inside has been left as it was, Agatha Christie's bedroom still has her clothes in the wardrobe along with some fancy dress outfits for when guests would come to stay for the weekend.

Agatha Christie was an archeologist, she brought back several things from where she went. She was an avid collector and her house is full of antiques.

Inside the boat house (The book, Dead Man's Folly is set here)

Holiday over and it is time to make our way back home.....

Back at home now with with a book on Agatha Christie's life and a National Trust book on Greenway. I have always loved Agatha Christie stories, especially the ones which include Miss Marple & Hercule Poirot but did know much about Agatha Christie herself. Having walked around her house, it made my interest grow even more. I look forward to learning more about her through the book.

Years ago before the house was given to the National Trust, I would go past it by ferry and wished I could look around it. I remembered the house to be white then. My wish finally came true!

Our car broke down half way through the holiday so no return trip to Totnes or visiting Ashburton! I will have to visit the Snug, Lavender Box & This'n'That on my next visit! We ended up having to stay in the Dartmouth area but luckily as it is a beautiful area, we did not mind too much.

A bientôt!

What a lovely holiday - thanks for such a great account. I lived in Devon for years in my teens, and read all the AC books, but never got to see her house. Recently I picked up a large selection of them (in English) in my local French charity shop - you have inspired me to read another one now!

Hello Isabelle,
We've very much enjoyed reading about your break in Devon, looks like you had a lovely time. The other half was most interested in the photo of Kingsbridge station and said rather uncomplimentary things about Paignton. How funny when your email then came through all about it, he feels just the same!
I'd love to visit Agatha Christie's house, too.

Hello! Great post! I'm a big Agatha Christie fan too and loved Greenway when we went a few months ago. Have you ever stayed at Burgh Island? It's where Agatha wrote some of her books, including 'Evil Under the Sun'...such a fabulous place (you'd love it, I'm sure)! Katie x

I love Agatha Christie. I did not know she was an archeologist, how fascinating. I need to plan another trip to England with my mom (who is also a fan) so we can visit here. It is so beautiful.

Hi Isabelle, I have just had a bumper time catching up on your Devon Bliss parts 1 and 2. We are freshly home from Cornwall and would you believe we had car trouble too! yours isn't a landrover by any chance is it?

I loved all your piccies, my Granny is Cornish but now resides in Devon as does my SIL and her gorgeous 3 girls in Thurlestone. It was like a lovely little peak into what they are all looking at too!

You made such a great trip to Devon! I love your photos, but I'm glad you are back again to tell us all about your Devon bliss! I think the UK is a marvellous land to take a vacation, but we haven't done that in ages as the currency rate of the pound was sooo high. But reading and seeing your impressions I did take a little vacation over there, thanks and welcome back!

Hi, So glad that you enjoyed our corner of Devon! The wonderful thing about Greenway is that you can hire a wing of the house for house parties and even arrange to have drinks in the library!!
Something to dream of:)
