5 THINGS THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ME

1) My favourite sports: Shooting (target, NOT animals!) and fencing. I have enjoyed both hugely but fencing is probably my favourite.

2) When I was 11 years old, a French TV programme called 30 millions d'amis did a feature on me. It was about me horse riding since I was 4 years old & my love for cats. At the time, I was feeding stray cats & kittens. I ended up attracting and caring for over 20 stray and feral cats.

3) I am very interested in maritime archeology, shipwrecks & lost treasures, being my main interests.

4) I don't like soaps. I am not referring to scented soaps. I am talking about TV programmes such as Eastenders, Coronation Street, Home & Away etc..etc.... They always seem to be filled with a lot of mishaps and unhappiness for the characters. So many other things to do or watch instead!
This was a pleasant surprise for Alan when I met him. A woman who does not like soaps!

5) I am fascinated by the 17Th & 18Th century and love books and films set in those times (especially action/adventure, smuggling, pirates, swashbuckling, drama, romance & true events). Here are some of them..

Well, now you know a little bit more about me. I had better get on with some more work in the lounge. A third coat of paint is about to applied to the floorboards. I am pleased with it so far, the room already feels bigger and brighter.

We will be watching some of the Belgian Grand Prix at the same time as working. I always watch the Monaco Grand Prix and the Belgian Grand Prix.

Have a great weekend!

A bientôt!

Isabelle x

Its so nice to meet someone else who doesn't like soaps, I thought I was the only one! I also like action/adventure and swashbuckling stories too especially about Anne Bonney and Blackbeard and my all time favourite story is Moonfleet

Hello Isabelle!
Thank you for sharing these. I'd love to try fencing - is it very difficult? I love the postures - all that lungeing appeals to me!
Good luck with the painting. Last year we went for an ultra light lounge too, and it makes the room so much more restful to be in.
Happy weekend
Denise

Thankyou for all of these interesting little windows into your life. I also love anything to do with treasure, history and adventure. I also admire the people who research and make the costumes, I would love to have done that as a career. It's always good to find someone else who isn't a fan of soaps and your are right, there is a lot of aggression and negativity which probably isn't doing any viewers state of mind any good especially everyday viewing.

WOW fencing, that does look fun.

It was great to learn some more about you. I'm not a great fan of the soaps. I used to watch them a lot but now I don't bother. I tend to rent a lot of tv series dvds and watch them more often than not but I have to say that even if i don't watch the soaps I do watch a lot of trash!!

Hi Isabelle,

That was a lovely insight, thank you. Brilliant films all of them! Stuart Granger was fab, I loved the Prisoner of Zenda! Fencing must be a really exhilirating sport?

How fascinating! I feel the same about soaps - I think the one we are avoiding here in France is called 'Plus Belle la Vie' but we do a good job of knowing nothing about it! We made the choice not to get UK TV cabled in to us, so we do watch a bit more French TV. My rentree resolution is to watch the French news rather than just getting the BBC headlines on the internet.

Hi Isabelle, thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I have just been reading yours and love it, so glad I found it. I quite agree about soaps they are so depressing and they waste so much valuable time that could be spent doing much more fun and worth while things. Reading about your interests was fascinating I can certainly identify with quite a few of them. That's the great thing about blogging I seem to have found so many other people with similar interests when in my day to day life I know very few people that share my passions.

Hi Isabelle, What an interesting blog post.. I am fascinated by people's stories and what inspires them, catches their imagination, stirs them to look at the world differently and yours is no exception... thanks for the insight....

Great reading list! Exactly the sort of thing I have on audio book to keep me company in the workroom! Anything Bernard Cornwell! I'm too scared of water to be into shipwrecks! I suspect if there is such a thing as a previous life I might well have been a ships cat on a vessel that went down- don't like cats much either! HA! Great post and thanks for visiting recently! t.x

Hi,
Wow, is that you in the fencing photo? I used to fence and always feel a huge pang of jealousy when I see fencers.
Hope to see you this Thursday.

Hey Isabelle! What surprise facts! I don't watch soaps either! For a while I watched the bold and the beautiful, but when my mother, who watched it too, died (too young and totally unexpected ) I was so angry that these series just continued, you never learn anything from them and they will continue long after we have gone, so you better stop watching them now. And so I did.

OMG, lovely list!
Don't like soaps like you and love ancient wisdom of those centuries.

Thanks for stopping by.

The only one that really surprises me is the fencing. I like it too but they don't televise it here much. We have a lot of the same likes which doesn't surprise me a bit!!!

Hi Isabelle.. I have the most amazing little Dutch 17th Century painting that you would adore - its of a shipwreck.. or ship dashing on the rocks with an old Italian light house on the land.. its tiny and beautiful. The storm and clouds painted are just amazing.. They guy who sold it it me told me that it was ship wreckers luring a ship onto the rocks so they could pillage it... interesting.. maybe one day I will feature it on www.tresor-chic.blogspot.com

Anyway I adore vintage glamour too. Good taste!

Very interesting!

I tried fencing once and really enjoyed it but my fencing partner looked a little scared. The class was very disorganised and I didn't go back but took up rowing instead.

I don't like soaps either.

I haven't read Moonfleet for a long long time, must try and find a copy.

Thanks for visiting my blog, I've enjoyed my visit to yours & will be back!

Anne.
