Enjoying the good weather!

What glorious weather we have been having here in the West Country! I am not one for very hot weather but I have to say, I have really been enjoying these beautiful sunny days. Yesterday was Miss P's sports day at school, I went prepared. I took a parasol, a comfy folding chair, a cherry drink and snacks. The sun was beating down and I was very glad to be sitting in the shade. Miss P had a great time and came 2nd in the tennis ball relay which she was chuffed to bits with.

Today I spent most of the day doing housework and gardening. We had some much needed rain overnight, the garden smelt fresh and earthy. Don't you just love that scent!

The joy of spending time in the garden at this time of the year is seeing the beautiful flowers out in full bloom. The collage above are flowers which I picked from the front garden this afternoon.

I picked these flowers whilst walking in nearby country lane today. Nature is very generous! I love wild flowers.

Work in the back garden is still ongoing as you can see. Alan has done a fantastic job of turning the soil over and getting rid of the weeds in the centre where the lawn will be.

Now it's the tedious job of removing as many stones as possible.
Miss P has been doing her bit to help out too.

We have been finding plenty more of this...

This is tiring work!

Once we have removed all the stones, Alan will rotivate the soil. Some of the stones are huge. We found the foundations of a wall going across the garden. This has added extra work as they are very hard to remove. We aim to have a lawn established by mid August, in time for Miss P's 10th birthday... The clock is ticking...Will we meet the deadline???

Thank you for your lovely, encouraging and enthusiastic comments about my new blog/venture ;-)

Have a great week!

A bientôt!

Isabelle X

Yes it is hard work, but isn't it exciting seeing the progress? Looks like Miss P is doing a great job as well.

My kids would go wild finding all that pottery. I think my son would be out there with his metal detector looking for treasure. The weather there must be wetter and cooler than here. Summer here is very hot and dry. I can only grow pansies in the fall and spring.

Beautiful flowers. My favourites are the wild ones - it's so lovely to see flowers growing wild on the verges and in the hedgerows. I'm lucky to have several organic fields nearby, so the flowers are quite abundant. Sadly it's not always so in other places.

I shall follow your progress on the garden and with all that help from Miss P I'm sure you will reach your deadline.

Dear Isabelle, Miss P is growing so quickly! It must be the fresh air. She looks as lovely as ever. I bet you were a glam Mummy with your parasol at the sports carnival. That made me smile as we just had Daisy's first-ever sports carnival and I was thrilled she won so many ribbons as I had never won anything at sports! I could not believe the distance they made the kindergarten children run but she ran it like a greyhound. She did lose a couple of races because she would stop to see where her friends were or wave to the watching parents, bless her heart. And in the relay she suddenly decided she'd had enough and put the baton down and walked off! Five year olds! But she finished up with two seconds (long-distance sprint and javelin, two thirds and a good effort) It took me nearly two days to calm down from all the excitement.
I always love your garden posts. So jealous I don't live in the country to pick wildflowers! Enjoy your day. xx

Isabelle, your flowers are beautiful. Pansies are my absolute favorite, though the 100+ degree temps we have been having lately are just to high for pansies, so thank you for sharing yours. I adore the history of your homestead, especially the findings which you unearth. Sweet little Miss P. looks a bit overwhelmed by the task you all have taken on, though the results will most certainly be wonderful! ~ Angela

Greetings Isabelle,
What lovely flowers you have! My sibling swears by working in her garden, she always says it clears her mind and allows her to think more rationally.
Now if only I could bottle that and sell it! :-)
Thank you for taking the time to visit me at KimmyStyle, I sincerely appreciate your time and your visit.
Have a lovely Wednesday, cheers!

Hi Isabelle
Lovely photographs, I love the flowers, very pretty. You will have to make a mosaic out of all those pieces of antique pottery and china from your garden - would look great. You look like you are all working jolly hard - good luck and hope you meet your deadline.

The most beautiful time of year, don't you think. We too continually dig up fragments of china. I can't bear to part with them and as yet, haven't come up with an idea as to what I want to do with them, so they sit in jamjars and every now and then I tip them out just to look and touch.... good luck with your new blog ....
