Eventful day!

In the lane that I live in, there is a bridge about 100 yards away from our house. Underneath it, the road has been flooded for the past 2 weeks! No one can get through except for tractors. Luckily we can access the rest of the lane by turning left. It is frequently flooded when it rains heavily.

At around 10am this morning, I looked out of my workroom window as I could hear someone calling out. A lady was calling her 2 dogs. I looked out as I thought they might be chasing after my cats. It turns out that her car was stuck in water under the railway bridge. Poor woman (named M), she was wet and cold. I invited her in and called for help to have the car pulled out of the water. It took quite sometime before anyone arrived on the scene!

She was very concerned that she would be imposing on us. After reassuring her that she wasn't, I said that if something like that happened to me, I would hope that someone would help me.

In the meantime, I put the kettle on, leant M some clothes as hers were soaked and lit the fire to warm up the room. As we waited for help, we chatted about this and that including interior design. She is a lovely person who has it happens used to work for a well known textile company in London and loves textiles!

After lunch, the recovery vehicle turned up and drove M back home.

The car stuck under the railway bridge in our lane today

Sign put up when help finally arrived

This is the 5th or 6th time this has happened in that same spot, this year alone!

Miss P was at home today as she was unwell but it didn't stop her from doing her bit to help.

By the way, the two dogs are safe and well too!

A bientôt!

Oh the poor love! What a kind hostess you were to her. I bet she was so thankful for your kindness and thoughtfulness. I hope this rain stops soon...there is no way they can put a hosepipe ban on us this coming summer! xxx

well done for being so kind! My car nearly conked out on the way back from Bridport on Saturday as it was raining so hard and there were HUGE puddles covering most of the road... as it was dark it was very hard to see where the water began & ended! Lizzie x

I should be very happy to have you to look out for me if I was in a predicament, plus I would get to see all your lovely things you have been doing to your home!

We have a stream at the bottom of the field which is currently a rampaging river! Buster normally paddles through it every morning but at the moment he is having to swim for it! Plus he gets carried along by the strong current, which he loves! Crazy labrador!

She's lucky you were just down the road! Not a nice thing to happen to anyone but at least she's unhurt. We had a rain-free day yesterday but unfortunately it was back again today.

Hi Isabelle

Sadly the threads Hen bought at Bridport weren't mine, although I do have some DMC coton perle No 8 and No 12 at Dairy House.

I may take some to the Giant Flea on 13 December, but otherwise they will be at Dairy House. Not sure if they're exactly what you want, but email me direct if you want something specific. I may have it.
