DORSET PUDDLES Part 2

Following on from my PREVIOUS post....

After our night's stay in BRIANTSPUDDLE, we left our B&B and walked to the post office/shop situated just yards away. I bought some lovely cards from original watercolours by Mary Sherwood, they are all of Briantspuddle.

The building on the left is the village hall and the one on the left is the post office/shop. On a Sunday it opens for a couple of hours in the morning.

After that we headed back to the car and drove straight for LULWORTH COVE to have a walk along the coast.
It was a VERY BLUSTERY day!

I always have a look to see what has been washed up, there wasn't much this time.

A steep walk uphill, looking back to where we parked our car.

We were walking against the wind and it was HARD WORK but the views were rewarding.

After our walk we popped into Country Wines in Lulworth Cove (surprisingly no website). They have a fantastic selection of wines, liqueurs and beers. We came back with some ginger wine (delicious and warming) and some Piddle Beer ;-)) (a local ale)

We headed for Wareham

We stopped here and had a car picnic

After Wareham we made our way back to the outskirts of Briantspuddle, there is a lovely forest there.

A cottage in the woods

View from the back of that cottage

After the forest walk, we had one last walk around Briantspuddle itself before it was time to head back home to Somerset.

This is where the Post office/shop used to be when I lived in Affpuddle.

I really like this cottage, very unsual in shape

The sun is going down and after several miles worth of walking, it's time to go back home.

Affpuddle & Briantspuddle have a strong sense of community and take pride in their villages. They often hold events in the village hall which many villagers attend. They are lovely places to live in!

As mentioned in previous post, I have very fond memories of the time when I lived In Affpuddle in the early 1980's.

A bientôt!

It is so amazing to see how others live "across the pond" so many things are similar and yet so different. Loved your pictures and reading all about your weekend adventure.

Oh no need to tell that you have fond memories of living here, Isabelle! When I see your pictures and those of the previous post I feel like mailing 'escape to the country' with an emergency message that I am looking for a cottage in the Dorset Puddles NOW!

Your scenery photos are DREAMY! The rainbow of wine bottles is so pretty. I love the thatched roofs; believe it or not we do have a thatched-roof shop here on Cape Cod near the Canal. A teensy bit of England on the Cape - lol!

I have a lot of Lulworth Blue paint in my house - I feel that I must visit the Cove one day! The houses are a dream - I am hoping for a trip to Somerset soon!

It looks so lovely, great photos too. After such a long walk I hope you had some of that wine...medicinal reasons of course!

What a wonderful tour, Isabelle. I think I would have done all of the things you did while visiting; taking the long walks, visiting the shops...I love the car picnic. Never heard of that but sounds like fun and a 'No wasting time' sort of thing!!

I really enjoyed seeing the cottages, especially those with the thatched roofs. How incredibly cozy these homes look. Someday I hope to visit!

These villages have gone on top of my 'must see' list next time I am in England. Lulworth Cove looks very Daphne du Maurier! I can see the pirates, smugglers and intrigues along that blustery shore. I also love the mysterious little fairytale cottage in the woods. Thanks for livening up a rather taxing day here in Sydney! More excursions Isabelle please! I do enjoy following your adventures. xx

Another fabulous tour,Isabelle.
I've always loved Dorset and thankfully it is next door to Devon so I think we'll be venturing there fairly soon ...and definitely doing all the 'puddle' places!

Great tour, thank you.
As a child my parents to me to Lulworth Cove and I played on the beach there, it was lovely and quiet for them and boring for me (I don't have brothers and sisters so I never had anyone to play with) but if I should ever go back I would probably appreciate it more.

Thank you for this wonderful tour, I'd forgotten how wonderful Dorset is.
Lulworth cove was always a favourite place for me. I use to go on my days off when I worked at Studland.
You've certainly encouraged me to take a trip back there.

Oooh...Piddle Ale, my Lovely Hubby loves it and I keep all his empty bottles (lined up on the windowsaill in the downstairs loo!). One day he says he will make his own beer and that is why he saves them....we'll see!

Love all your photos.

The photos of Lulworth Cove are exactly what I imagine when I read "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier.

Absolutely lovely, thank you for sharing them! It makes me want to buy a plane ticket...

Oh Isabelle what a treat!

I just long to be by the coast in the Autumn and Winter, I love it blustery and bleak, the colours are amazing and I just luxuriated in your Lulworth Cove shots so thank you!

I have really enjoyed your tour, must get to some of the villages you mention, next time we are in Hardy country.

In all that rambling on about old homes, I forgot to say in my previous comment, that isn't it just so lovely that the authoress left a copy of her book for you when you moved to the house? I really like that idea - so friendly and welcoming on a personal level.
Are you going to the V&H fair? If so I hope we can 'bump' into each other and say 'hello'!

Those cards are pretty too, are you going to display them?
