Happy Easter!

One of my favourite tins.

3 Little chicks in my kitchen. I really like the blue and white salt holder, my Father bought it for me whilst in Czechoslovakia some years ago.

Little nest on paper napkins.

I have a LOT of paper napkins. I love all the different designs and colours you get and how they add a nice little touch to the table. I bought these in Bruges, as well as buying some with the letter 'W', I bought some with other initials too. This one matches my surname. Cath Kidston also has a wonderful selection.

What ever your plans are this weekend, I wish you all a lovely Easter!

A bientôt!

Essential decorative touches & Meet Lilly and Larry

I added more decorative touches to the landing this weekend. It is so satisfying when you are getting much closer to achieving the look and feel that you want.

I recently won a giveaway from SweetScarlett

Pretty book plates. I was able to chose my own design and wording and Maggie did the rest. Thank you Maggie, I am really pleased with them!

Here are some of the things which have made their way to my home recently.

This beautiful 1930's mannequin head from Vintage Home recently made her way to my home.

She is still in her box waiting for my work room to be finished. I look forward to finding the right spot for her.

The detail on her face and paint work is incredible!

Pretty tin from Country Cottage Chic

Fabric and pins also from Country Cottage Chic

Bought for £1 at a fair, not my sort of thing usually
but I found myself quite drawn to it, so sweet!

Lily of the Valley & forget- me -not small jug
Bought for 50p in a bric a brac shop

Gorgeous coat hanger from HenHouse .
I love the pattern and the colours.
Meet Larry. He was determined to get into my pictures every time I tried to photograph something for this post. Especially when I was photographing the kitten fabric, pins and floral tin. Fame at last, he made in to one of my blog pictures. He tried so hard, I couldn't let him down!

And so as to not be left out, here is Lilly. She is quite shy! Lilly & Larry are brother & sister. They are lovely kittens with great individual personalities! We adopted them from the RSPCA in January. They are 10 months old.

I have not been able to make anything for a while as all my fabrics, craft bits etc..are all packed away in boxes whilst my workroom is being worked on. I really look forward to making things again soon...

And finally...

A BIG THANK YOU to all you who left such kind and thoughtful messages on my last post. Your words meant a lot to us. Phoebe is amazed at how many of you left a comment. She also said how nice that all these people were thinking of her. It put a big smile on her face, thanks to YOU.

Guardian Angel Was Watching Over....

Yesterday afternoon , I received a call from a friend of mine. She sounded distressed, she was not panicky but you could tell in her voice something had happened. She said someone had driven into the back of her car at the top of our lane. My daughter Phoebe was in the car with her when it happened..

I do a car share rota with Phoebe's best friend's Mother. Yesterday was my friend's turn to drop off Phoebe at home after school. My friend told me that Phoebe was OK but shaken up, crying and wanted Mummy.

After dialing 999, I ran the 1/4 mile up the lane to reach the main road, the car was not where I expected it to be. It had been pushed up the road by the another 20 metres due to the force of the impact from the car coming from behind. My friend was indicating to turn right in to the lane we live in when coming up from behind at great speed a car went right in to the back of them. It was a tremendous impact!

I saw the debris and state of the car, I realised that the accident was more serious than I had thought, this had been a big impact. It suddenly hit home seeing the scene. The police had not arrived arrived yet but some men who witnessed the accident took control of the traffic situation, They were so helpful!
As I approached, I saw Phoebe crying, you could tell she was shaken up. Poor thing, I was so very relieved to see her, I kissed and hugged her. My friend had blood on her face and hands, she was calm under the circumstances but also shaken up. The police and ambulance arrived. Phoebe was taken to hospital. Her arm is bandaged up as her wrist hurt. On impact, Phoebe put both hands out on the dashboard to try and hold on. My friend hurt her nose and also went to hospital. They needed to see if they had any other internal injuries.

Now something happened yesterday that stopped things being worse than they would have been...

Phoebe was meant to have been sitting in the back of the car as she usually did. But on this occasion, Phoebe's best friend had brought her bike in to school as it was bring a toy into school day. My friend decided that it would be best to drop off Phoebe first at my house then go back for her daughter and bike as it might have been a bit of a squeeze. This meant Phoebe sat in the front of the car on her booster seat. Had Phoebe been at the back as usual & with the bike there too, things could have been so much worse!! Someone was watching over and I am so thankful for that...

The car is a write off. The 2 men driving the car who caused the accident were arrested after being breathalysed on the scene. The police rang later to say that they had been over 3 times over the alcohol limit!

I wish to thank the men from Somerset White Lining Ltd who stopped and helped immediately, the police & ambulance crew who were all so good and reassuring with Phoebe. Also wish to thank my friend who despite being injured & shocked herself, reassured and comforted Phoebe throughout until I arrived.

As Phoebe was shaken up by what happened, she slept with me last night. We both talked about how lucky she was, she too realised that if she had been in the back it could have been a very different outcome. We both prayed and thanked her guardian angel.

Ilminster Vintage Textiles Fair

Liz's stall

Today I headed off to Ilminster (Somerset), I went to the Ilminster Vintage Textiles Fair. There, I saw some familiar friendly faces and had the pleasure of meeting Niki from Nostalgia at the Stone House for the first time. Although I have bought things from Niki's website on and off over the past 2 years and have exchanged comments via email & blog, we had had not met face to face up until today. Both Donna's & Liz's stalls were beautifully presented!

Basket of corsets

The one that got away.... I saw her on Liz's stall but made the mistake of deciding to look around first as she was the first thing I saw. When I went back to Liz's stall to buy her, she had gone! I was trying to be so good, you know... not buying the first thing you see in case you see something else... What was I thinking of in this case!?!

Donna's stall
Some of the things I came back home with

I love the colours of this Heather design fabric
LOVE this cushion cover!
From Donna's stall

Gorgeous fabric also from Donna's stall
From Donna's stall again...
Beautiful lace collar, pearl hat pin and mother
of pearl buckles

Really enjoyed the time I spent there. It was nice seeing some friendly faces and to see an array of such beautiful vintage fabrics, buttons, trims etc...
After the fair Alan & I drove to some villages nearby so that he could take some 3d photos to add to his Somerset 3d website. We finished off the outing with a late pub lunch.

Sunday Boot fair & Victorian finds in our garden

Today, I did my first boot fair in 5 years and there was a lot to get rid of! Phoebe, Alan & I headed off to Yeovil (Somerset) where there is a big boot fair that takes place there most Sundays. (In case you some of you are thinking of going soon, IT WILL NOT BE OPEN ON 5th APRIL but will be open for business as usual from 12th April)
We had a very good day for it. The weather was perfect, lovely & sunny.
Today was about getting rid of things, it wasn't really a buying day but that did not stop me from coming back with a few things nevertheless...

As I was laying my table not long after arriving, I saw a lady walking up to my table with a vintage child mannequin on a wooden stand, you can imagine my thoughts... 'Oh if only we had arrived earlier'.... I immediately said to Alan, I must have a very quick look around. Feeling a sudden sense of urgency, what else might I miss out on otherwise???....
And here are the things I came back home with

My favourite purchase of the day. The colour
was what I was really drawn to, green again!

I have a set of little glasses, now I have the matching jug.
I was also very pleased with set of keys, one of them being
Georgian.
These little saucers will find a good place in my kitchen

This fire screen was just £1
Roses bowl

One stall was selling these old cotton & silks threads,
I bought all the entire box (35 in all)
This plate is hand painted. Not in perfect condition
but I like it.

After the boot fair was over we returned home.
After unloading the car, we spent a bit of time outside. Phoebe continued working on her den.

Phoebe's 'secret' den

One of the views from our back garden

After Phoebe had finished working on her den, we went into the back garden to do some digging...
Our back garden was not as we wanted it, so we had a digger get rid of a concreted patio area so that we could have a large lawn and shrubs around and possibly a vegetable plot at the bottom. After the digger left, we found hundreds of piece of crockery and glass. We found several bottles which are intact. Some had what look like medication in.

Most of it dates from around the second half of the 1800's to early 1900. We have several boxes full of these bottles and broken pieces. I plan to make something with some of the pieces we have found. It's great fun and so interesting! Feels like 'Time Team' (TV programme on archeological digs)! We have not found any gold coins so far though...

This is one aspect of the back garden, as you can see a lot of work is required. We have to do some repairs on the outbuilding that you can see. At the moment we use it as a shed but want to convert it into a proper insulated & heated utility room. There is still a very old fashioned toilet in there! The garden... well, once we have removed as many pieces as we can, we will have to landscape it. LOTS of work but I look forward to seeing the end result.

Old barn in front of our house. When you go inside you step back in time. It used to be a stable. I will do a feature showing some interior pictures. It has not been converted in to anything. It remains a rare example of what the inside of this stable looked like over 100 years ago. You can still see some of the hay the horses fed on. Some the old leather harnesses are still there! Owls and other animals find shelter there from time to time. Explore the barn where time stood still in one of my future posts...

FINALLY:
Ali from

That's it for now, I'm about to go and watch a bit of TV. I miss Larkrise to Candleford on a Sunday evening...

I wish all you a all have a good start to the week!

A bientôt!
