After visiting Clovelly Court Gardens, we walked down the steep hill in to Clovelly Village just in time to have an early evening meal.
Don't you just love this golden evening light.
The views are really quite breathtaking.
I love the look of this house, all that greenery around the door and flowers growing by the window, very pretty indeed. I think it's my favourite house in Clovelly!
The tea room's door and window are adorned with lovely ornate carvings. Unfortunately, it was closed by the time we got there.
There were a lot cats out and about. Which meant I had to stroke each of them on my way. I can't resist cats!
Time to walk all the way back up the cobbled hill... in my flip flops! I usually wear much more sensible footwear when I go walking but on this day that wasn't the case. Luckily, my feet coped well, no nasty blisters.
All in all we had a fantastic time in Devon, as you will have no doubt gathered from my past three posts.

Wonderful photographs - my questions is where are all the rest of the people, I have never seen Clovelly quite so deserted. By the way I take my hat off to you for walking back up I usually take the jeep up when I have visited.

ReplyDeleteThat wee village is breathtaking, love it, Devon and the south of England are up high on my list of holiday destinations. I was there a few times as a child but would love to return. In contrast my friends all want to go to the sun or some really cosmopolitan city, I'd rather the countryside :)

Such a pretty village, it's no wonder the tourists flock there. I remember going as a child and it was absolutely heaving but it looks as though you had the place to yourselves, lucky things. It's a long drag up again isn't it?

It is also steep & overlooks the sea. The railway station is right on the edge of the sea & has a "No fishing from the platform" sign!

Oh Isabelle what a charming village. I cannot tell you how I love seeing little places like this. It is beautiful. I think that the cobblestone streets make the villages all the sweeter, and the cottages are all so well cared for.

ReplyDeleteIt must have been 25 years ago that I visited Clovelly with my husband (then boyfriend). Thanks for taking me back. It is such a pretty village. I can still remember not only the beautiful houses and the blue of the see, but also the steep climb from the harbour to the top of the hill!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved Clovelly after a very sedate sunny afternoon there this time last year... crab sandwiches on the beach followed by ice-creams and the obligatory cat stroking... Heaven x

Clovelly is amazing isn't it? It's like time has stood still.... it's one of my favourite places to visit, although you do have to be prepared for the steep climb... worth every step! Glad you had such a lovely time here in Devon... you'll have to come to the south coast nest time!

I don't believe it! (in the words of Victor Meldrew) the last time I went to Clovelly (which is about 20 yrs ago) I took a wonderful photo on a black cat in a window! I must make time to go back there again. Enjoy the weekend, Lizzie x
ReplyDeleteDear Isabelle, I had such a wonderful moment walking along with you in this so beautiful and lovely place!!! When I see old places like this one I can`t avoid being sad, in Chile with the last huge earthquake in February so many old buildings, houses broke down and too much of our history was washed out. Is such a terrible thing that happened. Europe has so many historic arquitecture just has it was and is so breathtaking to see them.
